On Sunday July 12, 2015 at approximately 5:00 pm, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a trailer fire in the 300 block of North 6th Street.
Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the location along with Fire department personnel. As Deputies interviewed neighbors and witnesses, they all confirmed that a male subject known to them as previously living at the residence had been there at approximately 4:00 pm and he had kicked in the door and was being disorderly. The witnesses advised that the man left the area on a bicycle just before they saw smoke start to billow out of the residence.
Deputies were able to locate 48 year old Michael Churney at an apartment complex where he was taken into custody without incident. Mr. Churney was booked into the Cochise County Jail on Arson charges where he remains on a $150,000 bond.
There were no injuries in this incident and the investigation is being continued by the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
