Camp Fire Burning In Tonto National Forest

The Camp Fire, which has consumed 400 acres, was sparked Thursday in the Tonto National Forest. The Camp Fire, was reported around 12:45 p.m.

It is burning north and east of the Bronco Trailhead, which is west of Horseshoe Lake.

Spokeswoman Anne Thomas said 25 firefighters, including a type 3 helicopter and an air attack unit, have responded to the fire. Two air tankers have been requested.

Thomas said no structures or homes are threatened at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The fire is burning within the footprint of the Cave Creek Complex Fire, which burned in 2004. Much of the fuel is grass and brush.

Law enforcement agencies are directing traffic away from the fire. It is burning beneath a power line. Utility crews have responded and, according to Thomas, have indicated that the line has not been damaged.
