Following up on last month’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act, the National Retail Federation and other business groups on Monday urged Congress to move quickly on reforms to the five-year-old health care law.
“We write to urge Congress to put priority attention toward easing the cost and compliance burdens associated with the Affordable Care Act,” the groups said in a letter to members of the House and Senate.
“Though the broader debate continues with respect to the ACA overall, there are numerous bipartisan bills that could bring real relief to the employers we represent and their employees,” the letter said. “Though the needs are diverse, their timing is urgent. We strongly urge you to enact as many of these changes to the ACA as possible before the end of the year.”
The letter was signed by NRF and 23 other groups representing retailers, restaurants, supermarkets, franchises, insurance, human resources and other industries. Since each of the groups has its own priorities for reform of the ACA, the letter called for broad action rather than addressing specific legislation.
NRF is the world’s largest retail trade association, representing discount and department stores, home goods and specialty stores, Main Street merchants, grocers, wholesalers, chain restaurants and Internet retailers from the United States and more than 45 countries.
