On Monday July 20, at around 10:30 p.m., Arizona State Troopers received information about several suspects loading a passenger car with backpack bundles of marijuana and then traveling along I-10 within the Phoenix area.
The State Troopers located and then followed the passenger car off I-10 at Broadway Road. The suspects evaded Troopers and parked the passenger car at a bar near Priest and Broadway. Several people got out of the vehicle and walked north on Priest from Broadway. Tempe Police assisted Troopers in apprehending the suspects and seizing 203.9 pounds of marijuana inside the vehicle. The marijuana has a street value of about $80,000.
Detectives with the Arizona State Troopers determined that the suspects hiked through the desert with the backpacked bundles of marijuana for several days prior to being picked up in the passenger car.
The four suspects were booked into the Maricopa County jail in Phoenix for possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, transportation of marijuana for sale, conspiracy and illegally conducting an enterprise.
