The Tucson Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting of a man in his apartment that took place Sunday morning in the 3200 block of North Alvernon Way.
At approximately 6:45 a.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment complex to check the welfare of a man at his apartment. When officers arrived, they made contact with the man, who armed himself with multiple weapons and charged the officers, according to police. Both of the officers on scene discharged their firearms and the suspect was struck several times.
The officers immediately began rendering first aid to the suspect using their Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK). Tucson Fire responded to the scene and transported the suspect to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The officers were not injured during the incident.
As is standard practice in all officer involved shootings, the Homicide Unit will conduct a criminal investigation into the incident. Additionally, the Office of Internal Affairs will conduct a separate and parallel administrative investigation to examine the actions of department personnel in response to this incident.
