Pima County Sheriff Sergeant Steps Up For Stranded Woman

On Wednesday, at around 4:45 p.m., Pima County Sheriff’s Sergeant Patrick Hilliker was near the intersection of Alvernon Rd. and 22nd St. when he saw a broken down vehicle in the turn lane and a very distraught 23-year-old female crying on the sidewalk, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Sergeant Hilliker was concerned for her welfare and stopped to speak with the female, the Department reports. He immediately pushed her car to safety and into the parking lot of a nearby store.

The female had been in an accident in the same vehicle the day prior and was still shaken up and bandaged from a related injury. Sergeant Hilliker discovered the car broke down because it was out of gas. She had no cell phone, no money, and no one to call for help. According to the Department, the young woman gladly accepted Sergeant Hilliker’s offer to get her some gas for her car.

The sergeant drove to a nearby Quik Trip, where one of the employees generously offered to lend his gas can to contribute to the effort. Sgt. Hilliker got a gallon of gas, drove back over to the waiting woman and put it in her car.

The young woman was extremely thankful for his generosity and assured Sergeant Hilliker she could make it to a friend’s house close by.
