Pinal Inmate Arrested, Died 6 Hours Later in Hospital

A 52-year-old male inmate of the Pinal County Adult Detention Facility has died at a local hospital after complaining of chest pains while in custody.

The inmate, Benny Hensley of Arizona City, was arrested by a Pinal County Sheriff’s deputy on August 14, at 10 p.m., for an outstanding felony warrant from a 2014 charge of Possessing Dangerous Drugs.

Mr. Hensley was booked in to the adult detention facility after being cleared by Pinal County medical staff.

Just after 2 a.m. August 15, Mr. Hensley complained to detention personnel that he was having chest pains. At 2:25 a.m., he was transported to the Florence Anthem hospital for evaluation. At 3:45 a.m., he was pronounced dead by emergency room doctors at the hospital.

There are no indications of foul play; however, the medical examiner’s office will make the final determination of cause of death at a later date.
