On August 19, 2015, at approximately 11:30 a.m., San Xavier District deputies responded to the Red Roof Inn, located at 3700 West Irvington Road in reference to 6 dogs in a truck. When deputies arrived, they located the truck that had 4 canines in crates in the bed of the truck, and two dogs were inside the cab with the windows rolled down approximately 4 inches.
The deputies on scene checked the temperature inside one of the crates with a thermometer and it registered 102 degrees.
Pima Animal Care Center was called to respond and pick up the animals. Deputies were unable to locate the owner of the dogs when they arrived.
At approximately 1:40 p.m., the owner of the dogs, identified as 65-year-old James Hutchinson, returned to the Red Roof Inn. Mr. Hutchinson was transported to the Pima County Adult Detention Complex and booked on 6 counts of Cruelty to Animals.
