Sierra Vista Man Arrested For Kidnapping Family

A Sierra Vista man was arrested for kidnapping, aggravated assault and prohibited possession of a weapon early Tuesday morning after calling the police and holding his own family members in an apartment at gunpoint.

The Sierra Vista Police Department responded to Las Palomas Apartments, at 499 South Carmichael Avenue, at about 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday when 30-year-old Manuel Medina, of Sierra Vista, called stating there were people in his apartment he didn’t know and he would shoot anyone who came inside. Once police arrived and set up a perimeter around the apartment, Medina refused to come out or let anyone leave.

Several of Medina’s family members were in the apartment and he kept pointing a gun at one of them. The shift supervisor, Sierra Vista Police Department Cpl. Tim Wachtel, talked to Medina over the phone for 30 minutes and got him to come out of the apartment. Medina was taken into custody without incident and a loaded gun was found in the apartment.

Medina was booked into Cochise County jail and is being held on a $65,000 bond.
