Celebrate the Patron Saint of San Agustín

Public invited to celebrate the Patron Saint of San Agustín

Los Descendientes del Presidio de Tucsón and Saint Augustine Pastoral Council cordially invite you to attend a Mass in honor of San Agustín. Tucson’s birthday corresponds with the founding of Presidio Real de Tucson on August 20th 1775, which was named after San Agustín.

The Mass will be held at the St. Augustine Cathedral on Saturday, August 29th at 5:30pm. Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas will be the principal celebrant for this special mass and will be joined by Fr Gonzalo Villegas, Cathedral Rector. An image of San Agustín will be carried in procession by Los Soldados del Presidio de Tucson, followed by La Gente del Presidio, Los Descendientes, Las Doñas, and Parish ministries and organizations.

There will also be the ritual ringing of the 1807 Presidio Bell dedicated to the Virgen de Gualalupe by Las Doñas and Parish representatives during the procession. Following the Mass there will be a reception in the Parish Placita.
