On Tuesday August 25,2015, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a Douglas Police Department Detective who had a man in custody after he broke into his unmarked patrol vehicle which was parked at the Detectives’ home.
Sheriff’s Deputies responded along with other Douglas Police Department Officers to the location of this incident.
Deputies met with the Douglas Police Department Detective who said that he observed the man approach his vehicle and gain access before he was able to get outside and stop the man from leaving in the vehicle.
The suspect advised that a friend of his asked him to get the vehicle from a residence in Douglas belonging to his “mechanic” and bring it back to him in Agua Prieta Sonora Mexico. Rivera advised that his friend was going to pay him $300 for bringing the vehicle back to him, and he provided a set of keys for the vehicle to Rivera.
Deputies took custody of 35 year old Richard Rivera, who lists an address in Tucson, and booked him into the Cochise County Jail on felony charges of Motor Vehicle Theft.
The investigation is being conducted by the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office with the final report being submitted to the Cochise County Attorneys Office for review upon completion.
