Teens Interrupted During Pinal County Burglary

On Saturday, August 29th, 2015 at 12:47 a.m. the Pinal County Sheriff’s 9-1-1 Communications Center received a call regarding a burglary in progress in the 4000 block of East Silverbell Road, San Tan Valley. The homeowner had come home and discovered two juvenile males burglarizing his home. One of the juveniles ran from the residence and the homeowner was armed with a Katana Sword to keep the second suspect from leaving.

Deputies arrived at the residence within minutes, and the 15-year-old juvenile suspect who was now sitting on the couch was taken into custody. A short time later, the father of the second suspect, (age 16) called the homeowner and told him his son was also involved in the  burglary and had returned home. Deputies went to the second suspects’ home in the 28000 block of North Dololite Lane and took him into custody.

The 16-year-old suspect admitted to running from the residence carrying a backpack full of items taken in the burglary. He said that he threw the backpack into another backyard and would show deputies where it was at. The suspect directed the deputy to a residence in the 3800 block of East Morenci Road and said that was where they would find the backpack.

The backpack was located and inside it a deputy recovered; four watches, four cans of spray paint, a pair of gloves, a speaker, a key chain, some antique coins, a tablet that had a keyboard and charger attached to it. The homeowner identified all of the items as being stolen from his home with the exception of the gloves.

Both suspects admitted to entering the residence through an unlocked window in the backyard. They admitted they brought with them a crow bar, a flat head screwdriver, a flashlight and gloves. They also both admitted to committing the burglary.

Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “Both teen suspects were booked into the Juvenile Detention Center for Burglary and Possession of Burglary Tools. They had stolen approximately $900 worth of items from the homeowner. They are
fortunate that this case ended with them just being arrested and that they were not injured by the homeowner who
came home to find them burglarizing his home.”
