The Tucson Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred this morning in the 1200 block of South Turquoise Vista.
On September 20, 2015, just before 2:00 a.m. officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex in the 1200 block of South Turquoise Vista. Officers arrived on scene and located a citizen performing CPR on an adult male with gunshot trauma. Officers took over CPR and utilized their Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK) until members from the Tucson Fire Department arrived on scene. The male was pronounced deceased on scene. The victim from this morning’s homicide has been identified as 24-year-old Ian Hoying. Next of kin have been notified.
Detectives from the Tucson Police Department’s Homicide Unit and Night Detectives Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation. Dectectives have been able to determine Mr. Hoying and another adult male were in an argument while standing on a staircase outside of an apartment in the complex. There is no indication Mr. Hoying knew the other male or had any association with him. The argument continued and the male pointed a handgun at Mr. Hoying. Additional words were exchanged and Mr. Hoying began walking towards the male. The male discharged the firearm striking Mr. Hoying. The male initially left the area but returned to the scene a short time later and was detained by police without incident. The male has been identified as 19-year-old Dezon Scott. He was arrested and booked into the Pima County Jail for 2nd Degree Murder.
The detectives are asking anyone who might have witnessed the incident or anyone with information to please call 911 or 88-CRIME.
