Just after 1 p.m. Wednesday, an anonymous call came into Pinal County 911 center reporting a body floating in the canal near Stanfield Road and I-8.
Deputies found an obviously deceased male adult in the canal at a canal gate south of I-8. Based on clothing and other items found with the body, it appears that the deceased was involved in smuggling activity.
There are no obvious signs of how the man died. Detectives have started a death investigation.
