Saturday October 10th at the annual U of A Band Day competition, the Rincon/University High School (RUHS) Ranger Marching Band ranked Superior with Distinction, the highest rank possible. The band was the only group to receive this ranking, and also received their second (2011) Milton Nunemaker Award. The Milton Nunemaker Award is given to the most outstanding group.
Their show entitled “Uninvited” tells the story of a group of students being excluded based on certain characteristics and the resolution of the conflict it causes. The show unfolds using the combination of intense drill formation, theatrical color guard performance, and musical selections including Alanis Morissette’s song “Uninvited.”
Last year, the Ranger Marching Band placed 4th in the state, and the only band from Tucson to make it to the Top Ten. The band is competing in the top division in both Arizona marching band associations and was invited to travel to California to compete in against the top marching bands on the West coast.
The Ranger Marching Band’s next performances include the Casa Grande Competition on October 24th, and the State Marching Festival on November 7th.
