The Eighth Sierra Vista Empty Bowls Project event promises food, entertainment, and camaraderie, as area residents are once again invited to help raise big bucks for area food banks on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Ethel H. Berger Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Guests who make a donation of $10 or more may choose a handcrafted bowl contributed by area potters as a thank you gift and reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world. A simple meal of soup and bread provided by more than two dozen area restaurants will be served at no cost. There will be a silent auction of special ceramic art and a table of extraordinary bowls available for $20 donations.
Last year, 2,015 handmade bowls were donated in support of the local event, which raised more than $17,000 for eight local food banks. This year, about $6,500, equating to 650 bowls, has already been collected in pre-event donations at events like Art in the Park. Organizers from the Pottery Studio @ Sierra Vista expect to have an additional 900 to 1,000 bowls at the event on Oct. 24, plus the pieces in the silent auction.
There will be live music, including performances by the Strong Oak Consort from the Society for Creative Anachronism and a string trio from the Sierra Vista Symphony.
Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for the Edward Jones Bag-a-Thon, which will be collecting donations during the event.
