Freeway Projects Require Phoenix Area Closures

Freeway-improvement projects will require closures or lane restrictions in the Phoenix area this weekend (Oct. 23-26). The Arizona Department of Transportation recommends drivers plan ahead, consider alternate routes or adjust travel schedules and use caution in work zones while the following restrictions are in place:

Westbound Interstate 10 closed between the I-17 “Split” interchange near Sky Harbor Airport and Seventh Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Oct. 26) for Deck Park Tunnel maintenance and drainage-improvement work. Southbound State Route 51 ramp to westbound I-10 closed. Westbound Loop 202 ramp to westbound I-10 will be open, but traffic will exit at Seventh Street with detours along McDowell Road or Van Buren St. Loop 202 WB ramps to SR 51 NB and I-10 EB will be open. I-17 SB ramp to I-10 WB near Sky Harbor closed (access to airport via 16th Street exit). DETOUR: Please consider alternate routes. Westbound I-10 traffic can detour to northbound I-17 starting near Sky Harbor and reconnect with I-10 at the “Stack” interchange north of Van Buren St. East Valley traffic heading to Sky Harbor Airport can use State Route 143.
Northbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) closed between Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and McDowell Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Oct. 26) for rubberized asphalt paving as part of widening project. Both Loop 202 ramps to northbound Loop 101 also closed. Northbound Loop 101 ramps to Loop 202 will remain open. DETOUR: Consider alternate routes.
Grand Avenue (US 60) closed in both directions between Loop 303 and R.H. Johnson Boulevard in Surprise from 9 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 25) for bridge work. DETOUR: Traffic can detour on Loop 303 and Bell Road to travel beyond closure. Please allow extra travel time.
Southbound Interstate 17 closed overnight at Pioneer Road near Anthem from 11 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday (Oct. 25) for traffic-flow sensor installation. DETOUR: Traffic will use the southbound off- and on-ramps at Pioneer Road during overnight closure.
Northbound Interstate 17 closed overnight at State Route 74 (Carefree Highway) from 11 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday (Oct. 26) for traffic-flow sensor installation. DETOUR: Traffic exiting at Carefree Highway will detour north on Gavilan Peak Parkway to Pioneer Road to reconnect with I-17.
Interstate 17 closed intermittently at Union Hills Drive for approximately 20 minutes each time from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 25) for Arizona Public Service Co. power line installation. I-17 ramps and frontage roads at Union Hills also closed at times. I-17 traffic will be stopped as needed by DPS troopers. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time. NOTE: Expect I-17 single-lane closures near Union Hills Drive from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Country Club Drive (State Route 87) closed in both directions at Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 24) for bridge work. Loop 202 ramps at Country Club Drive will remain open with right turns only. DETOUR: Consider alternate routes, including McKellips Road to Alma School Road.
