Tucson Police Investigate Fatal Grant Road Vehicle Rollover

On November 15, 2015, around 5:50 p.m., Tucson Police officers responded to a report of a vehicle rollover collision in the 4500 block of East Grant Road. Officers arrived on scene and located an unresponsive adult male, 28 year-old Jacob Morell.

They summoned the paramedics and members from the Tucson Fire Department arrived on scene a short time later. Mr. Morell was transported to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries where he was later pronounced deceased.

Detectives were able to determine Mr. Morell, the driver and sole occupant of a 2003 Nissan 350Z, was westbound on Grant Road just west of Swan Road. Mr. Morell was in the curb lane approaching an area where three lanes merge into two. Mr. Morell accelerated and attempted to pass traffic in the middle lane but lost control of the vehicle, struck a curb and a large landscape boulder. The vehicle rolled and struck an apartment in the 4500 block of East Grant Road before coming to a rest. Mr. Morell was ejected. No one in the apartment complex was injured and the damage to the apartment was minor. Speed appears to be a factor in this collision.

The investigation is ongoing to determine if additional factors contributed to this collision.

The driver has been identified as 28 year-old Jacob Morell. Next of kin have been notified.
