Fantasy Sport Sites Bring Renewed Attention To Self-Exclusion Program

Recently Fantasy Sports sites have begun to publicly promote Self-Exclusion options on their websites. These links allow players to sign up for a program that will deactivate their accounts for a designated amount of time.

The program is aimed at helping those with gambling addictions limit the amount of financial harm they can impose on themselves and their families.

The Arizona Office of Problem Gambling has offered a Self-Exclusion Program for more than a decade to Arizona residents, who also suffer from gambling addictions. The program offers individuals the ability to exclude themselves from all Arizona Casinos, as well as some out of state casinos, for a period of one, five or 10 years.

The program currently has more than 2,500 participants. Many people who have opted for the one and five-year self-exclusions have renewed again after their expiration. The program has been used by many as a successful tool while in recovery from gambling addictions.

The OPG works with the casinos to ensure self-excluded patrons are recognized and immediately removed from casino floors. If a participant were to successfully enter a casino and win, they are barred from claiming their winnings and instead all money is turned over to charity.
