Trump Better Santa, Clinton Better Grinch
Heading into Christmas Season, Arizona shoppers plan to spend less than last year, according to a MBQF survey regarding the holidays with Arizona Voters.
The respondents aren’t bullish on the economy, according to Michael Noble of MBQF. Just 18 percent would spend more this year than last year. Noble says the rest are spending less.
“Arizonans are clearly cautious about the economy heading into 2016,” Noble said. “But there is good news for brick-and-mortar stores, they aren’t dead – yet. Just 8 percent of respondents said they would only shop online. Another 42 percent said they would only shop at a store. Nearly half said they would do a combination of online and in-person shopping.”
“Cyber Monday was clearly popular among Arizonans but long lines at stores on Thanksgiving and Black Friday was a clear statement that shoppers haven’t given up on going out to the store to buy holiday gifts,” added Noble.
The poll also found that most Arizonans figure a billionaire would make the best Santa. Nearly three-quarters of respondents said Donald Trump is a better Santa than President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Bernie Sanders. Who makes a better Grinch? Clinton beat Obama 42-31.
“Even though consumers are losing confidence in the economy they have not lost their holiday spirit.” said Barrett Marson, CEO of Marson Media. “While Trump is a clear favorite to be Santa, Secretary Clinton’s unfortunate likeability ratings have cast her like as a Grinch-like character.”
In the automated telephonic survey of 720 high efficacy voters, conducted on November 30, the survey calculates a 3.65% theoretical margin of error, plus or minus in percentage points, 95% of the time.
