Maricopa County Administration Building Peregrine Falcon Takes Flight

A female peregrine falcon took flight over a field in Buckeye Tuesday morning chasing a dove as it started a new life in the wild. The bird is less than a year old, born on top of the Maricopa County Administration Building at 301 W. Jefferson in downtown Phoenix.

She left the ten story high nest in June but wasn’t able to fly. She broke a wing in the fall and Arizona Game and Fish and a falconer nursed her back to health and then taught her how to hunt.

The falcon was one of three chicks born on top of the Administration Building last spring. Arizona Game and Fish is hopeful the pair will continue to breed and increase the falcon population in the Phoenix area.
