Coffelt Lamoreaux Housing Project To Get Complete Overhaul

The Coffelt Lamoreaux Housing Project, one of the oldest in Arizona, is set to receive its complete overhaul, one more than 60 years in the making.

At its final meeting of 2015, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors voted to support the issuance and sale of $25 million in bonds to round out financial backing for the project, which will be completed over the next 18 months.

Currently, the site contains 296 units on 38 acres of land. When complete, the project will contain 302 units in 151 one-story buildings. There will be a mix of one, two, three, and four bedroom residences ranging in size from 657 square feet to 1,223 square feet. Because of the historic significance, the exterior facades will be maintained. But the insides of the buildings will be gutted and modernized, with new flooring, plumbing, sinks, cabinets, appliances, doors, windows, heating, and small private patios in the front and back of each unit.

A portion of the complex will be reserved for homeless households. An upgraded central park and a community center will be part of the project.
