Arizona DPS Predicts Heavy Holiday Travel

Low Gasoline Prices Will Likely Result in More Vehicles On the Road

With gas prices at record lows, the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) expects heavier than normal traffic volume on state and federal highways during the upcoming Christmas holiday weekend.

Dangerous driving behaviors such as distraction, fatigue, impairment and impatience have proven to cause serious injury and deadly crashes. DPS encourages everyone to become involved in reporting such behavior by calling 9-1-1.

Travelers should be prepared for vehicle mechanical issues, traffic, weather and other types of delays by carrying sufficient equipment and supplies that can sustain them and their family members until help arrives. Important supplies include a working cell phone. Also, travelers are reminded to make sure their vehicles and tires are in good working order.

Be sure to check road conditions at az511.gov or by dialing 511 BEFORE you set out on your journey.

Troopers will be watching for speeders and aggressive drivers. Slow down and pay attention to your driving.
