Pedestrian Killed In East Side Tucson Collision

The Tucson Police Department is investigating an early morning fatal collision that ocurred on December 24, 2015, just after 11:30 p.m., involving a pedestrian on the east side.

Officers responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian on East Broadway Boulevard and South Kolb Road. Upon arrival, officers located a 34-year-old female pedestrian on the ground. The officers began rendering aid as members from Tucson Fire Department were arriving on scene. The pedestrian was transported to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. She later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The identity of the female is being withheld, pending next of kin notification. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was not injured.

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation. They were able to determine the driver of a 2004 Honda CRV was eastbound on Broadway Blvd. in the center lane approaching a solid green traffic light at South Kolb Road.

The pedestrian was crossing Broadway Blvd. from north to south, away from the crosswalk, approximately one hundred feet west of the intersection. As she traversed the eastbound traffic lanes she was struck by the CRV. Speed was not a factor in this collision. However, the driver of the CRV was determined to be impaired. The detectives consulted with the Pima County Attorney’s Office and the driver was subsequently arrested for Driving Under the Influence – Impaired to the Slightest Degree, a Class 1 Misdemeanor.

The driver has been identified as 31-year-old Joedaniel Gutierrez.
