Men Sentenced For Brutal Beatings On Navajo Reservation

On Monday, Ray Manygoats, 26, of Tuba City, Ariz., was sentenced by U.S. District Judge G. Murray Snow to 70 months’ imprisonment after Manygoats previously pleaded guilty to two counts of assault resulting in serious bodily injury. Judge Snow previously sentenced co-defendant, Lee Bighorse Reed, 23, also of Tuba City, Ariz., to 84 months’ imprisonment on the same charges. Both defendants and victims are members of the Navajo Nation.

The defendants admitted searching for and then beating the two unarmed and unsuspecting victims with a wooden dowel and a metal bar on the Navajo Nation Reservation. The assault resulted in permanent injury to the victims.
