Independence High Killer Borrowed Gun

On Friday, February 12, 2016, a little before 8:00 am, Glendale Police received several 911 calls of a two people shot on the Independence High School campus located at 6600 N. 75th Avenue. Police were able to determine it was not an active shooter situation. Officers located two 15 year old female students down near the cafeteria area under a covered patio on the southeast portion of campus.

The two teens had sustained single gunshot wounds and were declared deceased at the scene. According to authorities, the shooting was not captured on video.

The suspect approached a 15-year old classmate on Thursday, telling him she needed it for protection; she promised to return the gun on Friday. The classmate provided her a family owned handgun, from his home, without the permission or knowledge of his parents. He has spoken to detectives and was cooperative. The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office will review his involvement in the matter.

Both the victim and the suspect were juveniles so their identities are protected under State law. Their names will not be released or confirmed by the Glendale Police Department.
