On March 13, at 10:20pm, Sloan Jackson Harper, age 81, was walking southbound on the west side of Hayden Rd with his adult son. Mr. Harper and his adult son decided to cross to the east side of Hayden Rd approximately 200 yards north of Camelback.
While crossing the northbound lanes, Harper was struck by a silver Toyota Prius sedan. The victim died at the scene and the Toyota Prius fled the area. A short time later, the Toyota Prius was found parked in the area of Mariposa and Granite Reef. The Toyota Prius had significant damage as a result of the collision and the driver was nowhere to be found. The northbound lanes of Hayden Rd were closed at Camelback while detectives investigate the collision scene.
The investigation is on-going at this time.
