TPD Investigating Homicide Of Man With Machete

The Tucson Police Department is actively investigating a homicide that occurred late yesterday at a trailer park in the 3300 block of North Romero Road.

On March 17, 2016, around 11:00 p.m., officers responded to the 3300 block of North Romero Road reference a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male with obvious signs of gunshot trauma. Officers immediately began rendering first aid and summoned paramedics. Members from the Tucson Fire Department arrived on scene a short time later and took over treatment. The male was pronounced deceased on scene.

The deceased male from last night’s homicide has been identified as 30-year-old Ricardo Navarette-Torres. Next of kin has been notified. The shooter remained on scene and was taken into custody without incident. No other injuries were reported.

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation.

Preliminary information revealed the incident took place near the northern driveway in the trailer park. The deceased male had a machete in hand and approached an adult male and an adult female who were in a vehicle driving to a residence in the trailer park. The occupants of the vehicle did not know the male holding the machete. A confrontation occurred at the vehicle and the male driver produced and subsequently discharged a handgun, striking the male holding the machete.

The investigation is ongoing.
