On Thursday, March 31, 2016 at approximately 7:30 am officers responded to 57th Drive and Grand Avenue for a collision involving two vehicles. The Glendale Fire Department responded to treat the injured driver. The injured driver, 24-year old Jorge Rivas of Phoenix, was later pronounced deceased at the collision scene. The driver of the other vehicle received only minor injuries.
Vehicular Crimes Detectives responded to conduct the investigation. The initial investigation shows that the Honda driven by Rivas was travelling northwest on Grand when the driver of the Lexus made a left turn onto southeast Grand from 57th Drive. The driver of the car stopped, remained on-scene and was cooperative with police.
The investigation is ongoing and it is does not appear that impairment had any role in the collision. Grand Avenue was closed for several hours while detectives carried out their investigation.
