last night, Deputy Jesus Vilvaldo was working at the Pima County Fair, conducting traffic control at the main entrance to the fair grounds. At approximately 8:00 p.m., Deputy Vilvaldo was removing cones from the roadway when a vehicle traveling southbound on Houghton Road struck him and continued southbound.
Deputies were able to catch up to the vehicle and stop it. Deputies made contact with the driver and sole occupant, 31-year-old Daniel Doubek. The Traffic Unit responded and took over the investigation.
As a result of the investigation, Mr. Doubek was arrested for driving under the influence, hit and run and aggravated assault charges.
Mr. Doubek was booked into the Pima County Jail. Deputy Vivaldo was transported to Banner University Medical Center for serious but non-life injuries.
