Tucson Aviation Parkway Collision Fatal

On April 19, 2016, just after 7:30 a.m., officers from Operations Division Downtown responded to a serious injury collision on East Aviation Parkway and South Kino Parkway. Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles involved in the collision. Members from the Tucson Fire Department arrived on scene a short time later.

One adult male driver was transported to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. One adult female driver was also transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries.
Detectives from the Tucson Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation. They were able to determine the adult male driver of a 2008 Kia Spectra was eastbound on Aviation Parkway, in the median lane, approaching the Kino overpass when his vehicle became disabled and stopped in the middle of the lane. The driver activated the hazard lights on the vehicle.

The adult female driver of a 1997 Nissan pickup truck was eastbound on Aviation Parkway in the median lane and struck the Kia from behind. Speed and impairments appear to be factors in this collision.

On April 20, 2016 the adult male driver of the Kia succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as 23-year-old Hugues Ishimwe. Next of kin have been notified. The adult female driver of the Nissan is still receiving treatment at the hospital.
