Pinal County, Ariz. — State Troopers are investigating a two-vehicle head on collision that killed the passenger of one vehicle and seriously injured both drivers. The collision caused the closure of the highway for more than seven hours.
On 04/21/2016, at 12:52 a.m., a two-vehicle fatal collision occurred along State Route 347 at milepost 182.8 northbound, just south of Riggs Road. A white 2005 Chevrolet passenger car driven by Deanna Borboa, age 26, of Maricopa, Arizona, was southbound on State Route 347 when for an unknown reason, crossed over the median and struck a northbound 2008 Dodge tow truck head-on. The tow truck was driven by 41-year-old Jason Malone of Maricopa, Arizona.
A passenger in the white Chevrolet, 34-year-old Justin Lamon Clark, of Phoenix, was not wearing his seat-belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Mr. Clark succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Ms. Borboa was not wearing her seat-belt and was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Mr. Malone was also transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
ADPS detectives have taken over the investigation and are also working to determine if impairment was a factor in the collision.
ADPS Sgt. Alan Haywood of the Vehicular Crimes Unit stated, “A major factor in the death and serious injury of the occupants of the white Chevrolet is the fact that they were not wearing their seat-belts. We cannot stress enough the importance of wearing your seat-belt properly. It most likely would have changed the conversation we are having about this collision.” Head-On Collision
