On Saturday April 30, 2016 at approximately 1:30 pm, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a possible rabid skunk in Brown Canyon.
Two hikers advised that as they were in the area, a skunk began following them before jumping onto one of the women, attacking her. The woman was armed and fired several shots at the animal before a third person arrived and was able to shoot it causing it to let go of the woman.
The skunk was only injured by the gunshot and an agent from USDA responded to take possession of the animal for disposition and testing.
The woman went to the Sierra Vista hospital for evaluation and possible treatment.
