Former Sequoia Charter School Teacher Sentenced For Sex With Student

Sheron Butler, a 36 year old former math and football coach in Mesa, was sentenced Monday to prison by Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Pamela Gates, after pleading guilty to attempting to have sex with a 17 year old student.

Butler pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to commit sexual conduct with a minor and one count of furnishing obscene material, after the victim reported she was having a sexual relationship with Butler.

The student had reported the relationship to her counselor July 2015.

Prosecutors charged the principal at Sequoia Charter School, Amy Fraser, with a felony for allegedly knowing about Butler’s relationship and not reporting it.

Fraser was indicted March 29, 2016. Her next court date is set for June 13, according to KMOV.

A search warrant indicated Fraser was told about Facebook messages that spoke of the victim’s relationship with Butler. The warrant read in part:

“Amy Fraser received information from several different persons concerned about Sheron Butler and a relationship with a student…. Factual information shows that Sheron Butler and the student were having a sexual relationship before, during, and after the time that Amy Fraser was notified about the relationship…. Amy Fraser was having an ongoing sexual relationship with Sheron Butler.”
