On May 18, 2016, at approximately 4:20 a.m., Glendale Police responded to a collision in the intersection at 75th Avenue and Glendale. Glendale Fire responded to treat the injured. 34 year old Glendale resident, Omar Portillo, was declared deceased on-scene. The other driver, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Glendale Vehicular Crimes Detectives assumed the investigation. Thus far, the investigation has revealed that driver of the semi-tractor (no trailer) was travelling northbound on 75th Avenue when Portillo failed to stop for a red light while travelling eastbound on Glendale Avenue. The two vehicles collided in the intersection. The investigators do not believe impairment was a factor in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing. The roadway was closed for several hours but reopened shortly before 11:00am.
