Transfer Of I-10 Basins To City of Goodyear Approved

The Flood Control District of Maricopa County Board of Directors approved an intergovernmental agreement allowing for the sale and transfer of approximately 130 acres of County Flood Control land to the City of Goodyear. The land being transferred is home to the “I-10 Basins,” which includes six flood basins located along the I-10 Freeway between Dysart Road and Bullard Avenue.

The basins are currently owned, operated, and maintained by the Flood Control District of Maricopa County (FCD). The basins are being transferred to Goodyear to own, operate, and maintain for flood control purposes, but also may be developed for multiple uses such as recreation and wellness. As part of the agreement, the City of Goodyear will assume operations and maintenance responsibilities of the basins.

The City plans to develop a public wellness and recreation park on the property, while maintaining compatibility with the basin’s flood control functions. Wellness park features include a future recreation corridor, multi-use trail connector, a corporate wellness village, family health amenities, and public gardens.

The official transfer of land ownership is expected to take place this August, followed by the City of Goodyear’s establishment of a wellness park governance structure and master plan design.
