The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety awarded the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office a grant to enforce the reduced speed limits in Construction Work Zones.
The grant consists of $30,000 in overtime funding as well as $5,539.76 for speed detection equipment. The enforcement campaign is based solely in marked construction zones on highways and roadways within Maricopa County with a “zero-tolerance” towards violators.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office reminds motorists if you are issued a speed citation that occurred in a Construction Work Zone, the fine amount could be double the norm. In a recent 10 hour Construction Work Zone enforcement detail in the East Valley, the Maricopa County Deputies issued 73 citations.
