Today, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Pima County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue, along with Southern Arizona Rescue Association, was called to the upper Tanque Verde Falls for an unresponsive man on the trail.
When they arrived, they found a 72-year-old man with extreme heat exhaustion. Search and Rescue units contacted Department of Public Safety’s helicopter, Ranger, and the man was air lifted to Tucson Medical Center where he is being treated for serious heat related injuries.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind everyone to limit all outdoor activities between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m, which is the hottest part of the day.
If you choose to hike, remember to pre-hydrate, bring plenty of water, bring your cell phone, hike with someone else, and enjoy the outdoors during the early morning hours.
