Rolling Hills Renovation Project Reuses City Park Sand

Construction continues at Tempe’s Rolling Hills Golf Course as the course’s aging irrigation system is replaced with a new, more efficient one. Trenching of the primary water main is complete. Crews are now finishing up the mainline installation, and will continue to construct a new lake over the next several weeks.

The Parks Division has repurposed 2,600 tons of sand to Rolling Hills from playgrounds at Papago, Indian Bend and Mitchell Park.  The parks’ playgrounds and volleyball courts will receive a less compact sand surface; the repurposed sand will be used to backfill the Rolling Hills trenches.

Though the golf course at Rolling Hills is temporarily closed, its restaurant – Caddy Shack – remains open for business Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The course will reopen in early fall with a Family Day celebration and Customer Appreciation Day to welcome back golfers.

Tempe’s other municipal golf course – Ken McDonald – is open all summer long for golfers of all experience levels. Click here to book a tee time.
