Special Council Appointed To Investigate Reagan, Special Election

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office informed Secretary of State Michele Reagan on Thursday that Michael Morrissey has been appointed as independent counsel to investigate the May 2016 Special Election. The AG’s office advised Reagan in a letter that there existed some “unanswered questions.”

Attorney General Brnovich writes:

On May 10, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office received a citizen complaint regarding the May 2016 Special Election and the mailing by the Secretary of State’s Office of publicity pamphlets relating to it. On May 24, we received a letter and report (“Response”) from your office. The Response confirmed that the required publicity pamphlets for the special election were not timely mailed. Moreover, it confirmed that your office delayed disclosure to county election officials and the public regarding the scope of the failure for at least several days, during which time ballots were being completed and returned by voters.

Former Special Agent Tells Arizona Supreme Court Of Brnovich Corruption

On May 13, 2016, former Assistant Chief of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office Dan Woods filed an affidavit with the Arizona Supreme Court, which will consider today a Writ of Mandamus filed by Arizona businessman Will Graven in an effort to compel Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich to present certain cases to an Arizona State Grand Jury. Former Assistant Chief Woods’ precise description of a years’ long investigation resulted in numerous indictments and plea agreements, but was allegedly cut short by Brnovich when it came time to indict powerful Arizona attorneys.

Woods, a former Federal Bureau of Investigation special agent and technical operations officer with the Central Intelligence Agency, with a stellar performance record, was summarily dismissed by the Attorney General’s office almost immediately after he presented evidence of alleged criminal conduct by Snell & Wilmer attorneys to higher-ups in the Attorney General’s Office.
