Pinal County Man Arrested For Kidnapping, Sexual Assault

On Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 8:37 p.m. the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office was called to the Mountain Vista Hospital in San Tan Valley regarding a reported kidnapping. The 48-year-old victim, said she had been physically assaulted, sexually assaulted and held hostage for two days by her ex-boyfriend.

Deputies responded to the hospital and spoke with the victim. She identified her ex-boyfriend as Drew Morrison (age 30).

Drew had requested she come over to his apartment (2300 block of Magma Road, San Tan Valley) on May 31st, because of a “bed bug infestation.” After they cleaned the apartment, the victim agreed to spend the night.

The victim told detectives, Drew was drinking alcohol, using methamphetamines, heroin and morphine which was causing him to have mood swings and violent behavior.

Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “On June 3rd, the victim attempted to leave the apartment and Drew told her she couldn’t go. Drew hit the victim in the face with an open hand, he then grabbed her by the hair and threw her onto the ground. Once on the ground, Drew pulled her back up to her feet and then pushed her into a corner of the room. Drew then proceeded to put handcuffs on her with her hands behind her back. According to the victim, while in this position, Drew put his hands around her neck and began to squeeze until she was about to pass out. Drew then forced her onto a bed, removed her clothing, and sexually  assaulted her. While sexually assaulting her, Drew was choking her and she was screaming at him to stop. After the assault, Drew removed the handcuffs but still would not let her leave.”

Later that night while Drew was distracted, the victim was able to get to her vehicle and drove to the hospital.

Deputies were able to obtain a search warrant for the residence and returned. As they knocked on the door, nobody would answer. Deputies were able to force their way into the residence and Drew Morrison was located and taken into custody. Evidence was collected which helped to confirm the victims account of the events.

Drew Morrison was booked into the Pinal County Sheriff’s Jail for Kidnapping, Sexual Assault, and Aggravated Assault.

Sheriff Babeu continued, “Victims of sex crimes often don’t come forward out of shame, fear and because they don’t feel anybody would believe them. This victim found the strength and courage to come forward and report the violent crimes committed against her. Thanks to her strength and courage, Drew Morrison is behind bars and being held on a no-bond status.”
