Tempe Juneteenth Celebration Planned

The third annual Juneteenth celebration will take place from 3 – 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 at the Tempe History Museum (809 E. Southern Ave.).

The event, which is presented by the African American Advisory Committee, City of Tempe and Tempe History Museum, celebrates the end of slavery in the United States.

The free, family-friendly event will include poetry, community performers, educational information, presentations, activities for children and more.

New this year, Tempe students submitted entries in the “What Freedom Means to me” contest. The submissions came in the form of essay, poem, display or work of art (visual art or performance). The winning submissions will be presented at the Juneteenth event.
