The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, at a public hearing on Monday, June 20, will vote on its final budget for FY 2017. On May 16, 2016, the Board of Supervisors adopted its $2.356B tentative budget.
Maricopa County receives only 12% of every dollar paid in property taxes. The vast majority (54%) goes to School Districts. With the adoption of this budget, the County will remain significantly below the maximum levy by $149.6M or 23%.
On June 20, the Board will also hold a “Truth in Taxation” hearing so Maricopa County taxpayers can have the opportunity to be heard in favor of or against proposed expenditures or proposed levies.
As discussed in the tentative budget adopted last month, to address projected ongoing cost shifts from the State, the Board is proposing property tax increases** as follows:
•Primary property tax increase of $23,519,770 or 5.0%, which would raise primary property taxes on a $100,000 home from $133.43 to $140.09.
•Secondary property tax increase of $8,215,546 or 16.6%, which would increase secondary property taxes on a $100,000 home from $15.37 to $17.92. (Flood Control)
•Secondary property tax increase of $388,465 or 2.0%, which would increase secondary property taxes on a $100,000 home from $5.45 to $5.56. (Library District)
Both meetings will be held at the County Administrative Building – 301 W Jefferson, 10th floor, in the Board of Supervisors Conference Room starting at 10:00am.
Additionally, and in accordance with State statute, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors will meet at a future date to vote on the final tax levy proposal. That meeting will be held on Monday, August 15, 2016 at 10:00am at the County Administrative Building. All interested citizens are invited to attend.
