On June 23, 2016 at 7:44 p.m., Marana Patrol Officers responded to the intersection of Ina Road and Meredith Blvd reference a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian was transported to Banner UMC, where she later died from her injuries. The pedestrian has been identified as 22-year-old Clarissa Marie Ballesteros of Tucson.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The vehicle involved is a 2007 Dodge pick-up truck. Marana Traffic Detectives responded to the scene and conducted the investigation.
The preliminary investigation reveals Ballesteros was crossing Ina Road in a marked crosswalk. The vehicle that struck her was making a left turn onto westbound Ina Road from Meredith. Speed and impairment do not appear to be factors. The investigation is ongoing.
This is the first pedestrian fatality in the Town of Marana since 2011.
