TPD Arrests Serial Burglar Twice

In the afternoon hours between June 8, 2016 and June 10, 2016, officers from Operations Division East responded to several residential burglaries in the area of E. Stella Rd./S. Sarnoff Dr. and E. Broadway Blvd./S. Houghton Rd. In these incidents, the suspect either broke a window or entered the home through an unsecured dog door and stole various items.

The officers were able to collect evidence from inside the homes and obtain critical information, such as serial numbers, from the victims related to the items stolen.

On June 10, 2016, an officer conducted follow up regarding the burglaries. His investigation led him to a suspect identified as 19-year-old Gary Duncan. Officers immediately began the search for Mr. Duncan.

On June 16, 2016, Det. Landau with Neighborhood Crimes Section was conducting follow up investigation at a pawn shop when he observed Duncan at the counter. Officers from the Community Response Team arrested Duncan without incident for the following charges:

  • 3 counts of Burglary in the 2nd Degree (a class 3 felony)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (a class 6 felony)
  • He was transported and booked into the Pima County Jail.

On June 22, 2016, one of the burglary victims contacted the detective advising an unknown male was currently inside their residence. The victim was able to provide a photograph of the male suspect. Officers arrived on scene a short time later but the suspect had fled. The officers circulated the area and found a male matching the photograph provided. The male was identified as Duncan.

Duncan was in possession of the victim’s property. He was subsequently arrested for the following charges:

  • Burglary in the 2nd Degree (a class 3 felony)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (a class 6 felony)
