
On Saturday evening August 6, 2016, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio attended and spoke at the 25th anniversary of the tragic Buddhist Temple murders. This tragic event resonates because of the nature of the crime and its occurrence in a holy place in the Buddhist Temple, which drew attention worldwide.
August 10, 1991 became a day the Maricopa County Sheriff Office would investigate the worst mass murder in Arizona history. Even today this case remains fresh on people’s minds due to the killings occurring in a holy place.
“This senseless killing that took the lives of six monks, one novice monk, a Buddhist nun and a lay person continues to be in our minds and as a law man I am very grateful justice has been served” said Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
The event took place at 17212 W Maryland Avenue in Waddell Az. from 5:30-7:30pm. Sheriff Arpaio presented certificates of appreciation tonight.
