Maricopa County Names Martin Director of Animal Care

Maricopa County officials today announced that Mary Martin has been selected to serve as the Director of Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (MCACC). Martin, who will begin in November, has served as the Executive Director for the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society since 2009.

Martin has been involved with animal welfare for more than 30 years. Since 2009, she served as the Executive Director for the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Human Society in Santa Fe, NM, where she took the shelter from a 65% live-release rate to a stable 94%. She oversaw a system that included a stationary and a mobile spay/neuter service, a full-service veterinary hospital, and a behavior center. From 2007-2009, she was the Executive Director of the Spay Neuter Project of Los Angeles. She was the Medical Director of MCACC from 1999-2003. Ms. Martin is bilingual in Spanish.

“I began my career in the Valley, and am thrilled to return,” said Mary Martin, a Phoenix native. “I’ve worked all over the country, and Maricopa County has some of the most dedicated leadership, staff, advocates, and volunteers who I’ve ever encountered. It’s this type of passion and commitment that will continue to help the most vulnerable animals of Maricopa County.”
