Tucson Family Keeps Fire At Bay With Green Hose

A family was able to keep a fire at bay in the 800 block of East 30th Street by using a green garden hose while Tucson Fire was responding.  Multiple calls were made to 9-1-1 reporting smoke and flames from the home. TFD was able to control the fire within 10 minutes of dispatch time.

TFD crews could see black smoke in the area as they responded and arrived to find smoke coming from the eaves of the home. The firefighters on scene were able to confirm that everyone was out of the house safely.

The first crew pulled a hose line to the rear of the house as the fire was in a laundry/storage area that at one point looked to be a carport area.  The residents were trying to prevent the fire from spreading by using a green garden hose while crews were responding and they were able to keep the fire at bay.  The firefighters extinguished the fire and then confirmed that the fire was confined to the laundry area.

Nine units and 23 firefighters responded to the scene and controlled the fire five minutes after arriving, doing so quickly in large part to the efforts of the residents.  Building Safety/Code Enforcement was en route to the scene so no determination had been made as to whether the family could stay in the home or if it would be condemned.  Fire investigators were on scene and working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

The fire appeared to have started in the Storage/Laundry Area, the cause is still being investigated and no damages estimate is availabe at this time.
