Pima County Detectives Nab Domestic Violence Fugitives

On September 12, 2016, at approximately 2:13 p.m., Pima County deputies responded to reports of a domestic violence incident at the Dollar General located at 12355 North Trico Road. When deputies arrived, they encountered a male and female arguing inside a car. The female got out of the car, and in an attempt to flee the area, the male side-swiped a Sheriff’s Department patrol vehicle. A short pursuit ensued which was ultimately terminated due to safety concerns. The driver was later identified as 41-year-old John Lackey.

On September 15, 2016, at approximately 9 a.m., detectives with the Fugitive Investigative Strike Team (FIST) responded to a residence in the 17000 block of West Redrock Lane in an attempt to locate Mr. Lackey. When FIST detectives arrived, they encountered one of Mr. Lackey’s associates, 25-year-old Poleman Hayter, who had warrants for his arrest, including a probation violation for domestic violence. Mr. Hayter brandished a weapon and barricaded himself inside the home. After over an hour of negotiation, FIST detectives, along with patrol units, were able to successfully talk Mr. Hayter out of the home. He was taken into custody without any injuries to anyone involved. Mr. Hayter was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex for his warrants.

At approximately 11:00 a.m. the same day, new information indicated that Mr. Lackey had been spotted at a residence in the 11000 block of North Carbine Road. FIST detectives along with canine units, patrol units, and a detective with the Pima County Attorney’s Office, proceeded to the address on Carbine Road. When they arrived at the residence, Mr. Lackey fled on foot, eastbound into the desert area. Everyone involved worked together to successfully apprehend Mr. Lackey. Mr. Lackey was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex for his warrants. He was also charged with Domestic Violence Assault, Unlawful Flight, Criminal Damage, Hit-and-Run, and Driving on a Suspended License in relation to Monday’s incident.
