Border Patrol Council Tried To Warn Of Terrorist Encounters

On Monday, Breitbart reported that leaked FBI documents “reveal that 7,712 terrorist encounters occurred within the United States in one year and that many of those encounters occurred near the U.S.-Mexico border.” In response, the National Border Patrol Council is saying ‘we told you so.’

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) cited a Fox News report that referred to a DHS report, in which it was noted that a person attempting to enter the US illegally will have a 51.6% chance of successfully evading apprehension. “No one should be surprised by these numbers,” reads the NBPC statement. “For years now, we have been saying this to anyone who will listen.”

“Our agents have testified to Congress that DHS and CBP have inflated the apprehension rate and minimized the arrests of individuals from countries of “special interest.” We have told this to reporters from coast to coast. We have discussed it in depth on our radio program, The Green Line. However, the Administration has been either too proud or too afraid to admit the border remains porous and unsecured,” continues the Council’s statement.

“Being right is important because it demonstrates credibility. However, just being right does not get the job done. If we are going to protect our communities, we must have the courage to be honest with the American people. The American public is demanding security. We will never be able to provide them that security if we are too insecure to admit that too many people, from unknown origins, are crossing the border too freely,” argues the Council. “When we recognize there is a problem, it only enables us to get better.”

“Americans will accept honesty, but they will not and should not allow the Agency’s continued unwillingness to act,” concluded the Counicl, that repeated their “calls for openness, integrity, and honesty so that we can do the job the public demands of us. It takes courage to have faith that people will understand we are not perfect. The NBPC has the courage and the confidence that, when given the tools, resources, and support to secure the border, our agents will get the job done.”
